B-LINE FIG 28M-2-EG – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the B-Line FIG 28M-2-EG CPVC hanger handle?
The FIG 28M-2-EG offset hanger and restrainer takes CPVC plastic pipe up to 2 inches. It is sized for CPVC specifically, not for steel or copper lines, so if you are running larger than 2 inch CPVC you need a different figure number in the series.
2) How does this B-Line CPVC hanger mount, and what does it attach to?
It is a side mount hanger, so it fastens to the face of a stud, joist, or structural member rather than hanging from a rod off the deck. The offset body carries the pipe away from the mounting surface. Overall it measures 2.625 by 4.4375 by 1.5 inches, which tells you how much clear space you need alongside the member before the pipe is supported.
3) Is the B-Line FIG 28M-2-EG hanger UL Listed?
Yes, it carries a UL Listing, which is what an inspector will look for on a CPVC fire sprinkler installation. That listing is the reason to use a purpose-made CPVC hanger and restrainer rather than a generic strap.
4) What does the restrainer part of an offset CPVC hanger actually do?
It combines two jobs in one piece: it supports the CPVC line and it restrains lateral movement, so the pipe is held rather than free to shift in the hanger. On plastic sprinkler pipe that matters because thermal movement and the reaction when a head operates both push the line sideways. If you only need vertical support, a plain clevis or pipe strap is the simpler part; this figure is for where the run also has to be held in place.
5) Will an electro galvanized steel CPVC hanger hold up in my building?
The FIG 28M-2-EG is steel with an electro galvanized finish. That is a light zinc coating meant for dry interior service, which covers concealed ceiling spaces and finished occupied areas. For damp, exterior, or corrosive locations you want a heavier hot dip galvanized or stainless support instead.
