1) Will the B-Line BCH32-AB J-hook mount on 3/8 inch threaded rod, or does it need 1/2 inch?
Either one. The BCH32-AB has a 1/2 inch diameter mounting hole, so it drops over both 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch all-thread rod and is secured with nuts on the rod. That is the whole point of the cable-to-ATR fastener: you run your rod drops for the tray or conduit and hang the low voltage cable off the same rod instead of adding a separate support.
2) How much cable can a B-Line BCH32-AB J-hook hold?
The load capacity is 30 lb per hook, on a 2 inch J-hook with one hook per fastener. Spacing your supports so no single hook picks up more than 30 pounds of cable weight is what keeps you inside that rating. For heavier bundles or more categories in one run, step up to a larger hook or add drops.
3) How many Cat6 runs will a 2 inch B-Line J-hook carry?
The governing limits are the 2 inch hook opening and the 30 lb load rating, not a cable count. Fill the hook so the bundle sits loose inside the 2 inch saddle without compressing the jackets, and keep total weight under 30 pounds. If you need more capacity than that, run a second hook on the rod or move to a larger hook size.
4) Is a pre-galvanized steel cable hook okay for a parking garage or damp area?
The BCH32-AB is steel with a pre-galvanized finish, which suits dry interior commercial spaces such as plenums, corridors and above ceilings. Pre-galv is a mill coating on the sheet before forming, so the sheared edges are bare. For wet, washdown or exterior locations, specify a stainless or hot dip galvanized support instead.
5) Do I get the threaded rod and nuts with the B-Line BCH32-AB, or just the hook?
What you receive is the fastener itself: the 2 inch J-hook with its 1/2 inch mounting hole. Rod, nuts, washers and whatever anchors the rod to the deck are ordered separately. Plan the rod diameter first, since the hook accepts either 3/8 or 1/2 inch all-thread.
6) How much clearance do I need above the ceiling for this threaded rod cable hook?
