The ES4 enclosure carries a NEMA 4 rating, which covers falling dirt, rain, splashing water and hose-directed water. It gets there with a closed cell neoprene gasket behind the hinged cover. NEMA 4 does not include corrosion resistance the way a 4X stainless or non-metallic box does, and this one is painted carbon steel, so for coastal or chemical exposure you want a 4X body instead.
