B-LINE U2M25R – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Eaton B-Line U2M25R meter breaker work on a 120/240V single-phase residential service?
Yes. The U2M25R is built for 1-phase, 3-wire 120/240 V service with a 4-jaw meter socket, rated 200 A. That is the standard single-family overhead-or-underground residential configuration. It will not serve a 3-phase or 120/208V network service.
2) What breakers come already installed in the U2M25R meter breaker panel?
It ships with the breakers in place: one 200 A 2-pole main and one 50 A 2-pole. So the main disconnect and one branch feeder are already covered. Anything beyond that 50 A circuit feeds from a downstream panel.
3) Is this Eaton B-Line meter breaker for overhead or underground service entrance?
Underground. The U2M25R is the underground-feed version, so the service conductors come up into the enclosure from below rather than through a hub or mast on top. If you are feeding from an overhead drop you need the overhead-configured unit instead.
4) What size service conductors will land in the 200 A B-Line meter breaker?
The lugs take #6 through 250 MCM, which covers the usual copper and aluminum service entrance conductor sizes for a 200 A residential service. Bus is aluminum, so use a listed anti-oxidant compound and torque to the label.
5) Can the U2M25R meter breaker be mounted outdoors on an exterior wall?
Yes. It is a NEMA 3R rainproof enclosure in galvanized steel with ANSI 61 gray paint, and it is surface mounted, so it bolts flat to an exterior wall. 3R is the standard outdoor service equipment rating for rain and sleet, not for washdown or dust-tight locations.
6) Does this meter socket take a ringless or ring-type meter cover?
Ring type. The U2M25R uses a sealing ring to retain the meter, which is what most utilities in ring-type territories require. Utilities that specify ringless sockets will not accept it, so confirm with the serving utility before you set it.
7) Is 10 kAIC enough interrupting rating for a 200 A residential service?
The U2M25R is rated 10 kAIC. That covers most single-family services fed from a typical residential transformer, but if the utility's available fault current at the service point exceeds 10 kA, which happens on short runs from large pad-mount transformers, you need higher-rated equipment. Get the available fault current figure from the utility before you commit.
8) Is the B-Line U2M25R approved for utility service in EUSERC territory?
Yes, it is EUSERC Approved and UL listed. EUSERC approval matters for western US utilities that require equipment on their approved list for service entrance applications.
9) What are the dimensions and weight of the U2M25R meter breaker enclosure?
25 inches high, 14 inches wide, 6 inches deep, and 36 pounds. That depth matters on a shallow wall cavity or a tight setback, and at 36 pounds it is a one-person set on unistrut or a plywood backboard.
10) Can I feed more than one unit or tenant from this B-Line meter breaker?
No. It is a single meter position device, one meter socket and one 200 A main. For a duplex or multi-family building you need a multi-position meter stack, not this unit.
