B-LINE SB747V2315AAL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How many rack units does the B-Line SB747V2315AAL shelf take up in an open frame rack?
Three mounting spaces are required for the SB747V2315AAL shelf, so plan on three RU of clear vertical space. Its height is 5.19 inches, which is consistent with a 3RU footprint. Leave those three hole groups free on both front rails before you order.
2) Is this a single sided or two post cantilever shelf?
It is a single sided rack mounted solid shelf, meaning it bolts to the front rails only and cantilevers back 15 inches. If you need support at both the front and rear rails of a four post or double sided frame, this is not the right part.
3) Is the shelf vented or solid? I need airflow for network gear.
Solid, not vented. The SB747V2315AAL is a solid aluminum shelf, so air will not pass through the deck. For switches or media converters that pull air vertically, choose a vented rack shelf instead; for routers, UPS bricks, patching gear, and test equipment that breathe front to back, a solid shelf is fine.
4) What screws do I need to mount this B-Line shelf?
#12-24 hardware, which is the thread used on B-Line Eaton series open frame racks with tapped rails. You will need six screws total, three per side, for the three mounting spaces. Confirm your rails are tapped #12-24 and not #10-32 before ordering hardware.
5) Will a brushed aluminum shelf match my black powder coated rack?
No, it will not blend in. The finish is brushed aluminum, a bare mill look rather than a painted black. In a lobby or display rack where appearance matters, that mismatch shows. In a closet or MDF it is a non-issue.
6) How heavy is this shelf itself, and is aluminum sturdy enough for equipment?
The shelf weighs 4.2 pounds on its own, so a single tech can hold it in place and start screws without help. Aluminum construction is why it is that light, and it also means no rust in damp basements or outbuildings.
