B-LINE SB741S19AFB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line SB741S19AFB shelf fit a standard 19 inch equipment rack?
Yes. The Eaton B-Line SB741S19AFB is a rack mounted CPU/monitor shelf sized for 19 inch open frame racks, with an overall width of 17.31 inches so the body sits between the rack rails while the mounting flanges land on the 19 inch rail centers. Depth is 15 inches and height 5.18 inches, so check that your open frame rack has at least 15 inches of usable depth behind the rails for the cabinet or monitor you plan to set on it.
2) Does this B-Line rack shelf have a keyboard tray, or do I need to buy one separately?
The keyboard extension is part of the shelf. The SB741S19AFB is a solid shelf with an integrated keyboard extension, so one part gives you the platform for a CPU or monitor plus the forward surface for a keyboard. No separate tray or slide assembly to order.
3) Is this shelf solid or vented, and does that matter for a CPU sitting on it?
It is a solid shelf, not a vented or perforated one. That gives you a flat continuous surface for a tower CPU, monitor base, or a technician's paperwork, but it does not pass air up through the deck. In an open frame rack that is usually fine since airflow comes from all four sides, but if you are relying on bottom-up convection through the shelf, a solid deck will not provide it.
4) What is this B-Line shelf made of, and will it hold up in a data closet?
Aluminum, with a flat black powder coat finish. The aluminum keeps the shelf light at 5 pounds, which matters when you are mounting it overhead in an open frame rack by yourself, and the powder coat is the standard matte black that matches Eaton B-Line open frame rack uprights so the installation looks uniform.
5) How much rack space does the B-Line SB741S19AFB keyboard shelf take up?
Its overall height is 5.18 inches. At the standard 1.75 inches per rack unit that works out to roughly 3U of vertical space, so plan on three mounting positions of the rack being consumed once the shelf and its keyboard extension are in place.
6) Is the SB741S19AFB meant for an open frame rack or an enclosed cabinet?
It is built for Eaton B-Line series open frame racks. On a two post open frame rack the shelf mounts to the front rails only, so the 15 inch depth cantilevers back unsupported. If you are working in a deep four post enclosure and want front and rear support, an open frame shelf like this is not the right choice.
7) What part number do I order for the B-Line aluminum CPU shelf with keyboard extension?
Order Eaton B-Line MPN SB741S19AFB. That single number covers the 19 inch aluminum solid shelf with keyboard extension in flat black powder coat; there are no separate finish or size options to specify.
