B52 is the shallow profile. It measures .81 in high by 1.62 in wide, so it is the half-height version of standard 1-5/8 inch strut rather than the full 1-5/8 by 1-5/8 deep channel. Use it where you need the standard 1-5/8 inch face width so common strut nuts and fittings seat correctly, but you don't have the depth for full-height channel, tight ceiling plenums, back-to-back runs, or shallow wall cavities.

The channel face is 1.62 in wide, the standard 1-5/8 inch strut opening, so hardware sized for 1-5/8 inch channel engages the return lips. What the shallow .81 in depth limits is anything that needs to sit down inside the channel, like deep spring nuts or hardware bodies intended for full-height strut. Check the depth of the nut or fitting body, not just the face width.

SH is the slotted-hole back pattern, so the channel arrives pre-punched along the back for mounting to structure without field drilling. That lets you lag or bolt the run straight to studs, deck, or concrete and still have some adjustment in the slots to line up the run. If you want a solid back with no punching, that is a different channel designation, not the SH.

It is 12 gauge steel, which is the standard heavy gauge for strut channel used on trapeze hangers, conduit racks, and equipment supports. The half-height B52 profile carries less load over a given span than full-height 1-5/8 by 1-5/8 channel, so for long unsupported trapeze spans with heavy pipe, step up to the deep channel and keep B52 for shorter spans and lighter conduit, cable tray drops, and equipment mounting.
