B-LINE BMM-6YZN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a B-Line BMM-6YZN spring nut fit standard 1-5/8 inch strut channel?
No. The BMM-6YZN is a mini channel spring nut, sized for B-Line mini strut rather than full-size 1-5/8 inch channel. Its body measures .425 x .525 x .721 inches, far smaller than the nut that seats in standard 1-5/8 inch strut. If you are working in 1-5/8 inch channel you need a full-size channel nut instead.
2) Is the yellow zinc finish on the BMM-6YZN spring nut suitable for outdoor or damp installs?
Yellow zinc chromate over steel is a light-duty corrosion coating meant for dry indoor service, such as interior conduit runs, cable tray supports and equipment hangers. It is not a hot-dip galvanized or stainless part, so for exterior, wash-down or corrosive environments specify a galvanized or stainless channel nut instead.
3) Does the BMM-6YZN spring nut come with the bolt, or do I order that separately?
It is the nut only. The BMM-6YZN is a spring nut for mini channel, so the machine bolt or threaded rod and any washers are separate line items. Plan on ordering the matching fastener and hanger hardware with it if you are building out a run.
4) What is the exact part number to reorder this Eaton B-Line mini channel spring nut?
Order it as B-Line BMM-6YZN. That is Eaton's own designation for the steel mini channel spring nut in yellow zinc chromate, and it is the number to quote if you are standardizing a facility on one channel nut so crews are not mixing sizes between mini and full-size strut.
5) What does the spring on a channel nut actually do during installation?
The spring holds the nut in position inside the strut once you drop it in and turn it a quarter turn, so it stays put against the channel lips while you get the bolt started. That is what lets one person hang conduit or tray overhead without a second set of hands holding the nut. The BMM-6YZN is the mini channel version of that part, in steel with a yellow zinc chromate finish.
