2) Is this kick plate rated for a commercial building or apartment corridor?
Baldwin lists the Estate 2000 kick plate as residential. For a house, a condo unit door or a light-traffic office entry it's the right piece. For a hospital corridor, a school, or a fire-rated opening where the plate has to be part of a labeled assembly, specify a commercial protection plate instead, since that is where grade and label documentation come from.
3) Should I get the 6 inch or the 8 inch tall kick plate?
Height on the Estate 2000 is a coverage decision, not a fit one. The 6 inch plate covers the bottom rail and the usual toe scuff line. Mark from the template, pilot drill, and set the plate on the push side above the bottom rail. Do not drill a fire-rated door for a plate that is not part of its listed assembly.
6) What is the difference between a kick plate, an armor plate, and a mop plate?
They are the same idea at three heights. A kick plate like the Baldwin Estate 2000 runs 6 or 8 inches up from the bottom rail and takes shoe and cart contact on the push side. A mop plate is shorter, usually set low to take mop and bucket damage. An armor plate is much taller, running up toward the lock rail, and is used where the whole lower half of the door gets abused.
