Baldwin PD005050ENTR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I have to order a left-hand or right-hand version of this Baldwin pocket door lock?
No handing to specify. The Santa Monica PD005 set is reversible, so the same set works on a pocket door that slides either direction.
2) Is this Baldwin Santa Monica pocket door set keyed, and can it be keyed into my existing Baldwin keys?
It's a keyed entry set with a single cylinder on the C-keyway, Baldwin's standard residential keyway. Any other Baldwin hardware on your house running the C keyway can be keyed alike by a locksmith or ordered keyed to the same system.
3) Does the PD005 pocket door lock need mortising into the door edge or is it surface mounted?
Surface mounted. The Santa Monica PD005 uses a newer surface mount design roughly 6-1/4 inches tall, with plates measuring 2-3/10 by 8-3/10 inches, so you're not routing a deep mortise pocket for the case. Confirm your slab face has clear room for that plate footprint clear of the jamb trim.
4) Should I buy the keyed entry pocket door set or the passage or privacy version?
Pick by what the room needs. The PD005 keyed entry version locks with a key from outside, which is what you want on a pocket door serving a home office, storage, or an exterior-accessed room. A passage set is just two plates with a spring loaded lock and no locking function, and a privacy set adds a privacy lock with an egress plate and thumb turn plate for a bathroom or bedroom where you want a bolt but no key.
