Baldwin PD006190PRIV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I have to order the Baldwin PD006 pocket door lock left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The Santa Monica PD006 set is reversible, so the same set works whether the pocket door slides to the left or the right. One part number covers both openings, which is what you want when you're doing several doors in a house and don't want to track hand per opening.
2) Does the Baldwin PD006 Santa Monica pocket door lock need a mortise pocket in the door edge, or does it mount on the face?
It's a surface mounted design that stands about 3.5 inches tall, so the plates go on the face of the slab rather than requiring a deep edge mortise for the body. The plate itself measures 2-3/10 x 5-1/2 inches. Backset is 2-1/2 inches. Worth measuring your existing cutout before you pull the old set, since a surface mounted plate covers a different footprint than a flush recessed one.
3) Can the Baldwin PD006 pocket door lock be keyed, and is it OK for a bathroom?
Privacy function only, not keyed. The thumb turn locks from inside and the egress plate lets you release it from the hall side in an emergency, which is the correct setup for a bedroom or bathroom. If you need a keyed pocket door for an office or a storage room, this is the wrong function.
4) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate Santa Monica PD006 pocket door set come in?
Ten finishes, and they matter if you're matching other Baldwin hardware in the house: 003 Polished Brass PVD, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 050 Satin Brass Black, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, 056 Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, and 260 Polished Chrome. The 031 non-lacquered brass is a living finish that will darken with handling; 003, 055, and 056 are PVD and hold their appearance. Satin Nickel here is nickel plated over brass.
5) Is the Baldwin Santa Monica pocket door set rated for a commercial building or apartment corridor?
Baldwin lists the Santa Monica PD006 as residential. It's a fit for single family, condo, and multi-family unit interiors, bedrooms and baths. For a commercial opening with cycle and code demands, specify commercial rated hardware instead.
6) I'm doing several pocket doors and only some need to lock. Can I mix the Baldwin Santa Monica passage and privacy sets?
Yes, and that's the normal way to spec a floor. Santa Monica is offered in both a passage build (two plates with a spring loaded latch) and this privacy build (privacy lock, egress plate, thumb turn plate). Same Estate Series design and the same finish range, so a closet on passage and a bath on privacy will look identical from the hall. Order the privacy set for any bed or bath.
