Baldwin BAL-R012.003.PS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Should I order the R012 rose as a pair or a half pair?
Order the pair when you are trimming both faces of a door, which is the normal case for a passage opening. The half pair is a single rose, useful when you only need one face dressed or when you are replacing a damaged rose on one side and want the other to stay as is. Both options are offered in every finish the R012 comes in.
2) Can the Baldwin R012 rose be used with a mortise entry set, or is it tubular only?
Both. Baldwin lists the R012 passage rose for building either a tubular passage set or a mortise sectional entry set, which is why the knob or lever and the latch are ordered separately. The rose is the trim; the chassis or mortise body you pair it with determines the installation.
3) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate R012 passage rose come in?
Fourteen finishes: Polished Brass (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass (044), Satin Brass and Black (050), Polished Nickel (055), Satin Nickel (056), Satin Brass and Brown (060), Graphite Nickel (076), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112/11P), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260), and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze (402). Each is available as a pair or a half pair, so you can match an existing opening exactly when replacing one side.
4) How far does the Baldwin Estate R012 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That is the trim depth only, measured at the rose; the knob or lever you mount through it adds its own projection. A quarter inch is shallow enough that the rose sits close to the face and will not interfere with a door edge or adjacent casing on a typical passage opening.
5) Is the R012 rose rated for commercial door traffic?
Baldwin classes the Estate R012 as residential. For apartments, single-family, and light hospitality interiors it is the right trim; for a commercial corridor or a school where a facility spec calls for an ANSI/BHMA graded cylindrical or mortise lock, specify commercial hardware instead of this Estate trim.
6) Will the R012 passage rose lock the door?
No. Passage function means latching only, no locking, no keyway, no thumbturn. Use it on hallways, closets, and pantry doors. For a bedroom or bathroom you want a privacy rose with a turn on the inside, and for an exterior door you want a keyed entry set.
7) Can I match the R012 rose across passage, privacy, and dummy doors in the same house?
Yes. The R012 rose style is offered in complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy, and Half Dummy sets through Baldwin's Quick Ship program, so a whole floor of doors can carry the same Estate rose profile while each opening gets the function it needs. That is the usual approach for a builder or property manager standardizing an interior package.
8) Is the Baldwin R012 rose solid brass or plated steel?
Brass is the substrate. In the Lifetime Satin Nickel version, Baldwin nickel-plates that solid brass with a PVD process, so you get the silver tone with brass weight underneath. Buyers replacing thin stamped roses will notice the difference in heft.
