Baldwin BAL-R012.003.FD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin Estate R012 rose dummy come with knobs or levers?
No. The R012 dummy rose ships with two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer(s) needed to hold the rose to the door. Knobs and levers are ordered separately, so plan on a knob or lever to complete the set.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the R012 dummy rose?
It comes down to how many sides of the door get trim. Half Pair covers one face, which is what a half dummy needs, typically a single pull on a closet or pantry door or one leaf of a double door. Pair covers both faces for a full dummy, where you want a non-turning knob or lever on each side. Both choices are offered in every finish the R012 is made in.
3) Will a dummy rose actually latch the door?
No, and that is the point. A dummy function has no latch, no spindle, and no moving mechanism. The R012 is fixed trim that mounts to the door face to carry a stationary knob or lever, used as a pull or for appearance. If the door needs to latch or lock, you need a passage, privacy, or keyed set instead.
4) How far off the door face does the Baldwin R012 rose sit?
Projection on the R012 rose is 0.25 inch. That is the rose alone, before any knob or lever you add to it, which matters when the door swings tight to a wall or you are lining trim up with adjacent openings.
5) What finishes is the Baldwin Estate R012 rose available in?
Fourteen finishes: Polished Brass (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass (044), Satin Brass and Black (050), Polished Nickel (055), Satin Nickel (056), Satin Brass and Brown (060), Graphite Nickel (076), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112/11P), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260), and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze (402). Matching an existing opening is easiest by that Baldwin finish number rather than the name.
6) Is the Baldwin R012 rose solid brass or plated zinc?
Brass is the substrate on the R012. On the Lifetime Satin Nickel version, the solid brass is nickel-plated with a satin PVD finish, so you get the silver tone with brass weight underneath.
7) Is the Baldwin Estate R012 rose suitable for a commercial building or apartment corridor?
It is a residential-rated item in Baldwin's Estate Series, so it belongs on interior residential doors, closets, and high-end millwork rather than a commercial corridor where a graded latching device is specified. Property managers do use it on unit interiors and model homes; for corridor and stair doors, specify commercial graded hardware.
8) Can I match the R012 rose to the rest of my Baldwin Estate doors?
Yes. The R012 rose style is offered in Baldwin's Quick Ship program as part of complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy, and Half Dummy sets, so the same rose design carries across functions. Order the dummy rose in the same finish number as the working sets on your other doors and the trim reads as one family down the hall.
9) I ordered a Baldwin knob but no rose came with it. Is the R012 what I need?
If the knob is a dummy knob and you want the R012 rose pattern, yes. The R012 supplies the rose, backplate, and retainers that fix the trim to the door face for a tubular dummy application. It will not convert a knob into a latching set, and it is sold in Half Pair for one face or Pair for both.
