Baldwin BAL-R029.003.FD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin Estate R029 rose dummy come with knobs or levers?
No. The R029 dummy rose ships with two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer(s) that hold the rose to the door. Knobs and levers are ordered separately, so plan on a second line item to finish the set.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the R029 dummy rose?
It comes down to how many sides of the door get trim. Order the Pair when you want the dummy rose on both faces, as on a full dummy set. Order the Half Pair for a one-sided application, such as a half dummy on a closet or a French door where only the active face is trimmed. Both choices are offered across all 14 Estate finishes, from 003 Polished Brass to 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze.
3) Will a dummy rose latch the door, or is it just trim?
Just trim. The R029 is a dummy function, meaning there is no latch, no spindle turn, and no locking. The rose and knob or lever mount to the face of the door as a pull or a visual match to the working hardware on adjacent openings. If you need the door to latch, you want a passage set instead.
4) Can I use the R029 rose to match dummy doors to the passage and privacy sets already installed?
That is exactly what it is for. The same R029 rose style is offered as part of complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy and Half Dummy sets, so a closet or French door fitted with the dummy rose reads identically to the working doors nearby. Match the finish code across all the openings, for example 056 Satin Nickel or 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze.
5) How far does the Baldwin R029 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch for the rose itself. That is the trim only, so the total stand-off at the door is the rose plus whatever knob or lever you pair with it. Worth checking if the door sits close to a casing or a cabinet return.
6) Is the Baldwin Estate R029 rose solid brass or plated pot metal?
Brass is the substrate. The Estate series R029 is built on solid brass, and the plated finishes such as Lifetime Satin Nickel are applied over that brass, which is where the weight in the hand comes from.
7) Is the Baldwin R029 rose rated for commercial door traffic?
It is a residential product. The R029 is an Estate series decorative rose, suited to homes, model units, and high-end multi-family interiors. For a commercial corridor or an institutional opening, specify commercial-rated trim instead.
8) Will the R029 dummy rose work on a slab door with no bore hole?
Yes. Because this is a tubular dummy, there is no latch to bore for. The rose and its retainer mount to the door face, so an unbored slab is fine. Follow the knob or lever manufacturer's fastening pattern for the surface screws.
9) Which Baldwin R029 finishes are living finishes that will change over time?
031 Non-Lacquered Brass is the one to watch. Unlacquered brass patinas with handling and air exposure, so it darkens unevenly over time by design. If you want a stable appearance across a whole house, go with a plated PVD option such as 056 Satin Nickel or 055 Polished Nickel. Other choices include 003 Polished Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass Black, 060 Satin Brass Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze.
