Baldwin BAL-R016.003.PV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What comes in the box with the Baldwin Estate R016 privacy rose, and what do I still need to buy?
The R016 privacy rose ships with either one or two roses depending on whether you order the Pair or Half Pair, plus the appropriate backplate and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and any adaptors are separate purchases. So a rose order alone will not give you a working privacy set.
2) Should I order the R016 rose as a pair or a half pair?
Order the Pair when you are trimming both faces of a privacy door, which is the normal case for a bedroom or bath. The Half Pair is a single rose, useful when you only need to replace one damaged or mismatched side, or when one face of the opening is already trimmed. Both options are offered in every finish the R016 comes in.
3) Is the Baldwin R016 rose a complete privacy lock or just the trim?
It is trim only. The R016 is a rose, the round plate that sits against the door face, and it is used to build a tubular privacy set with a Baldwin knob or lever and latch. The function is privacy, meaning a push button or turn locks the door from inside with no key cylinder.
4) How far does the Baldwin R016 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That is a shallow plate, so it sits close to the door and will not crowd casing or a door stop when the opening is tight.
5) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate R016 privacy rose come in?
Fourteen finishes: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112/11P Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Each is offered in both Pair and Half Pair.
6) Can I use the Baldwin Estate R016 rose on apartment or office doors in a commercial building?
Baldwin lists the Estate R016 as residential hardware, and the privacy function has no key cylinder, so it suits bedrooms, baths and private offices rather than doors that need keyed control or commercial-grade cycle life. For corridor, stairwell or entry doors in a commercial building, look at a Grade 1 or Grade 2 cylindrical lockset instead.
7) Will the R016 rose match the passage and dummy doors elsewhere in the same house?
Yes. The R016 style is offered in Baldwin Quick Ship as a complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy or Half Dummy set, so you can run the same rose profile across bedroom, hall and closet doors and only change the function. Order every door in the same finish code to keep the look consistent.
8) Is the Baldwin R016 rose solid brass?
The substrate is brass. On the Lifetime Satin Nickel version the brass is nickel-plated with a satin PVD finish. Non-lacquered brass, by contrast, is a living finish that will patina with handling over time.
