Baldwin R030402FD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the Baldwin R030 dummy rose?
It comes down to how many sides of the door get hardware. Order the Pair when you want trim on both faces, which is how a full dummy set is built (typically for inactive doors on a pair or a closet). Order the Half Pair for a half dummy, where only one face gets a knob or lever, as on a door with a push face or a pantry door. Both options are offered in every finish the R030 is made in.
2) Will the R030 Arch rose dummy latch the door or lock it?
Neither. The R030 Arch rose is a dummy function, meaning it is surface mounted trim with no latch, no spindle, and no locking. The door has to be held by a ball catch, roller catch, or magnetic catch. If you need the door to latch or to have privacy, the Arch style is also offered in complete Passage and Privacy sets.
3) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate Arch R030 dummy rose come in?
Fourteen: Polished Brass (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass (044), Satin Brass and Black (050), Polished Nickel (055), Satin Nickel (056), Satin Brass and Brown (060), Graphite Nickel (076), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112/11P), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260), and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze (402). Each is available as a Pair or a Half Pair. If you are matching existing Baldwin trim in a house, order by the numeric finish code rather than the name, since Baldwin uses several similar brass tones.
4) Do I need to bore the door for a Baldwin R030 dummy rose?
No cross bore or edge bore is required. Dummy roses fasten to the door face with the supplied retainer(s), so on a new slab you are only drilling for the retainer fastening, not a 2-1/8 inch lockset bore. That also means there is no backset to specify.
5) How far does the Baldwin Estate R030 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That quarter inch is the rose only, so add the knob or lever projection on top of it when you are checking clearance against a door stop, an adjacent wall, or a cabinet in a tight closet opening.
6) Can I use the Baldwin Estate R030 dummy rose on apartment or office doors?
It is built and catalogued as residential hardware, not commercial. For multi-family corridor or office openings that need a cycle-rated commercial lockset, this Estate Series trim is not the right choice; keep the R030 for unit interiors, model homes, and closet or French door applications.
7) Will the R030 Arch rose match other Baldwin Estate hardware already on my doors?
It is part of the Estate Series, so it shares that collection's finish range and styling with the rest of the line. The Arch rose design carries a distinct sweeping arch profile, so if the other doors use a different Estate rose shape the finish will match but the silhouette will not. For a consistent look across a house, use the same rose model and finish code on every opening.
8) Is the Baldwin R030 Arch rose solid brass or plated pot metal?
Solid brass is the substrate. On the Lifetime Satin Nickel finish, the brass is nickel plated with a PVD coating for the matte silver tone. Brass is also why the non-lacquered (031) option will patina over time, which is the intent of that finish.
