Baldwin R033102DM – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair options on the Baldwin R033 Arch rose dummy?
It comes down to how many sides of the door get trim. Order the Pair for a full dummy set, where a knob or lever sits on both faces of a door that does not operate, such as one leaf of a set of French doors. Order the Half Pair for a half dummy, where only one face gets a pull, common on a closet or pantry door or the inactive leaf you only pull from one side. Both are the Arch rose in the R033 model, and knobs or levers are ordered separately.
2) Does a dummy rose actually latch, or is it just trim?
No latching at all. The function is Dummy, so there is no spindle, no latch, and no bore through the door for a mechanism. The rose mounts to the door face with a backplate and retainer and the knob or lever becomes a fixed pull. If you need the door to stay shut you need a passage or privacy set with a real latch, not a dummy.
3) What comes in the box with the Baldwin Estate R033 Arch dummy rose, and what do I still need to buy?
The kit ships with two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. The knob or lever is a separate order, so pick the Estate knob or lever you want in the same finish code and buy it alongside the rose.
4) Will the Baldwin Arch rose dummy match the other Estate knobs and levers already on my doors?
It is an Estate Series component, so it shares Estate styling and the Estate finish codes. If your existing openings use Estate trim, order the R033 Arch rose in the same finish number, for example 056 Satin Nickel or 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, and the dummy door will read the same as the working doors. Baldwin also builds this style into complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy and Half Dummy sets, which is the cleaner way to standardize a whole floor.
5) How far does the R033 Arch rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That quarter inch of depth is what gives the Arch rose its curved profile rather than a flat plate look, and it is worth knowing if the door sits close to a casing, a stop, or a cabinet return where every fraction of clearance counts.
6) What finishes does the Baldwin R033 Arch dummy rose come in?
Fourteen finishes, and every one is offered as both a Pair and a Half Pair: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112/11P Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Note that 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is a living finish and will patina with handling, which matters if you are trying to match an existing lacquered brass opening.
7) Is the Baldwin Estate R033 rose solid brass, and is it suitable for a commercial corridor?
The substrate is brass, and Baldwin classifies the Estate R033 as a residential product. For high traffic commercial openings, schools, or multi-family corridors, specify a commercial grade lock line instead. This is the right part for single-family homes, custom residential, and upscale hospitality guest rooms where appearance leads.
8) Can I use two Half Pair dummy roses on a pair of French doors instead of buying a Pair?
Yes, and that is often the right call. On French doors where each leaf is inactive, a Half Pair on each leaf puts a pull on the room side of both doors. Buy the Pair when you want trim on both faces of the same single door. Order the Half Pair quantity you need in one finish code so the castings and plating come out consistent.
9) Does the R033 dummy rose work with tubular knobs and levers?
Yes. Baldwin lists these dummy roses as used to create tubular full or half dummy sets, so pair them with Estate tubular knobs or levers. The rose ships with the backplate and retainers to secure it to the door face.
