Baldwin R033190PV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin R033 Arch privacy rose come with the knob, latch and turn button, or do I order those separately?
You get the rose hardware only. The R033 Arch privacy rose package includes either one or two roses depending on which type you pick, the matching backplate, and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and the adaptors are separate line items, so budget for those on the same order or the set will not be complete.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the R033 Arch privacy rose?
Pair covers both faces of the door, which is what you want for a normal privacy application on a bedroom or bath. Half Pair is a single rose with its backplate and retainer, used when you only need to trim one face or you are replacing a damaged rose on an existing set. Both types are offered in all 14 finishes, from 003 Polished Brass through 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze.
3) What kind of lock does the Baldwin R033 rose mount to, mortise or tubular?
Tubular. The Arch privacy roses are used to build tubular privacy sets, so the door needs the standard bored prep for a tubular latch, not a mortise pocket. If your door is prepped for a mortise lock body, this rose is not the trim for it.
4) Can I use the Baldwin Estate R033 rose to build a passage or dummy set instead of privacy?
The R033 Arch rose in this configuration is set up as privacy, which is the function that takes a turn button inside and an emergency release outside. Baldwin does feature the Arch style in Quick Ship as a complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy or Half Dummy set, so if you need passage or dummy, order the R033 rose built for that function rather than adapting the privacy version.
5) How far does the Baldwin R033 Arch rose stand off the face of the door?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That quarter inch of depth is what gives the Arch rose its raised, curved profile rather than a flat plate look, and it is worth checking against any adjacent door stop or narrow casing where a knob shank and rose both need clearance.
6) Is the Baldwin Estate R033 rose solid brass or a plated zinc casting?
Brass is the substrate. On the Lifetime Satin Nickel version, that solid brass is nickel-plated to a satin matte PVD finish, so you get the silver tone with brass weight underneath. Brass also means the non-lacquered 031 option will patina naturally over time, which is the point of that finish.
7) I manage apartments and need one rose style across every interior door. What finishes can I standardize on with the Baldwin Arch rose?
There are 14 finish choices to standardize across: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112/11P Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Each one is offered in both Pair and Half Pair, so you can carry Half Pairs as spares for single-face repairs.
8) Is the Baldwin Estate R033 Arch rose suitable for a commercial corridor or office building?
It is classified residential. The Estate Series Arch rose is a decorative trim for homes and residential-style interiors, built around tubular privacy sets rather than the Grade 1 cylindrical or mortise hardware an office corridor or institutional opening normally calls for. For high-traffic commercial doors, specify commercial-rated locksets instead.
