Baldwin BAL-R032.003.FD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin R032 Arch rose dummy come with knobs or levers?
No. The R032 Arch dummy rose ships with two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer(s) needed to hold the rose to the door. Knobs and levers are ordered separately, so pick the Estate knob or lever style you want alongside it.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the R032 dummy rose?
It is about how many sides of the door get trim. A Pair covers both faces for a full dummy set, the kind used on double doors or a closet door where both sides need a fixed knob. A Half Pair covers one face only, for a half dummy where the inactive side stays bare. Both options are offered in every finish the R032 comes in.
3) Is a dummy rose the right choice, or do I need a passage set?
A dummy is non-functional trim. There is no latch and nothing turns, so the R032's Dummy function is for pull-only doors: closet doors, French door inactive leaves, pantry doors held by a ball catch or roller catch. If the door has to latch shut, you want a passage set instead. The same R032 Arch rose style is offered as part of complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy and Half Dummy sets.
4) Will the R032 Arch rose match the other Baldwin Estate hardware in my house?
It is an Estate Series piece, so it is built to coordinate with other Estate knobs, levers and trim in the same finish. Fourteen finishes are offered, from 003 Polished Brass and 031 Non-Lacquered Brass through 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Order the dummy in the same finish code as the existing hardware and it will read as one suite.
5) How far does the Baldwin R032 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch for the rose itself. That is the plate thickness off the door; the knob or lever you mount on it adds its own projection, which matters if the door swings close to a wall or an adjacent casing.
6) Do I have to drill the door for a Baldwin Arch dummy rose?
The R032 is a tubular dummy, so it mounts to the door face with the supplied retainers rather than working through a latch case. It is the simplest kind of dummy to install, and because no latch is involved there is no backset or strike prep to match.
7) Is the Baldwin R032 dummy rose solid brass?
Yes, the substrate is brass. On the Lifetime Satin Nickel version that brass is nickel-plated with a PVD process, which is what gives the matte silver tone its durability while keeping the weight and feel of a brass part.
8) Which finishes of the R032 Arch dummy suit a rustic or distressed look?
402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze is the distressed option, and 031 Non-Lacquered Brass will live-finish and patina over time. Both Pair and Half Pair are offered in each. The Arch rose itself is described as a rustic style that emphasizes organic, relaxed looks, so those two finishes lean into it hardest.
