Baldwin R035003PV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin R035 privacy rose include the knob, latch and privacy turn, or just the rose?
Just the trim. The R035 privacy rose ships with either one or two roses depending on the type you pick, the matching backplate, and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and the adaptors are all separate orders. Plan the full set before you buy, or you will have decorative plates and nothing to operate.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the Baldwin R035 rose?
Pair gives you two roses for both faces of the door. Half Pair is a single rose for one face only. Buy the half pair when you are replacing one damaged rose, when only one side of the opening gets trim, or when you are matching an existing set. Both options are offered in every finish the R035 comes in.
3) Can I use the Baldwin R035 rose on a bedroom or bathroom door that needs to lock?
Yes, that is exactly its function. The R035 is the privacy version, used to build a tubular privacy set, which is the push-button or turn-button lock you want on a bedroom or bath. The rose itself is only the trim, so the privacy latch and the knob or lever that carry the locking action have to be ordered alongside it.
4) Can I put the Baldwin R035 privacy rose on a door that already has a standard bored lock?
The R035 is trim for a Baldwin Estate tubular privacy set, not a universal cover plate. It mounts with Baldwin's own backplate and retainers and pairs with Baldwin knobs or levers and the matching latch, which are ordered separately. If your existing hardware is another brand's bored lock, you are replacing the whole set, not just swapping the rose.
5) How far does the Baldwin R035 rose stand off the face of the door?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That is the depth of the rose itself, before the knob or lever adds its own reach, so it sits close to the door face and will not foul a door that swings tight to a wall or casing.
6) Is the Baldwin R035 beveled rectangular rose solid brass or plated pot metal?
Brass is the substrate. In the Lifetime Satin Nickel finish, the solid brass is nickel-plated with a satin PVD coating, so you get the silver tone with brass weight underneath. The brass base is why the darker and living finishes hold up on a door that gets handled daily.
7) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate R035 privacy rose come in?
Fourteen: Polished Brass (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass (044), Satin Brass and Black (050), Polished Nickel (055), Satin Nickel (056), Satin Brass and Brown (060), Graphite Nickel (076), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112/11P), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260) and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze (402). If you are matching hinges and other trim already in the house, order by the Baldwin number rather than the finish name, since several of these read similar in photos.
8) Is the Baldwin R035 rose rated for commercial or multi-family corridor use?
It is a residential product. Baldwin classes the Estate R035 for residential applications, so for a commercial corridor or a high-traffic institutional opening you want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 cylindrical lockset with commercial trim instead. For interior unit doors in an apartment or condo, bedrooms and baths, it is in the right category.
9) Will the R035 rose match my other Baldwin doors if some are passage and some are dummy?
The R035 beveled rectangular rose style is carried across Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy and Half Dummy sets, so you can run the same elongated rectangular rose on every door in the house and only change the function behind it. Keep the finish code consistent across the openings and the trim reads identical door to door.
