Baldwin BAL-0155.030 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Baldwin Observ-O-Scope work on a 2 inch thick entry door?
Yes. The Baldwin Reserve 0155 viewer covers doors up to 2-1/4 inches thick, so a 2 inch slab is within range, as is the standard 1-3/4 inch commercial or exterior door. Above 2-1/4 inches it will not draw up tight and you need a longer-barrel viewer.
2) How wide is the field of view on the Baldwin 0155 peephole?
More than 160 degrees through the exterior lens, which covers the full width of a typical landing or corridor so you can see someone standing off to the side of the frame rather than only straight ahead.
3) Does the Baldwin 0155 door viewer come with a privacy shutter?
It does. All Baldwin Observ-O-Scope viewers are furnished with a shutter on the interior side, so the occupant can close off the lens when the door is unattended. That is the detail property managers usually ask about for apartment entries.
4) What finishes does the Baldwin Reserve 0155 viewer come in?
Two: 030 Polished Brass and 260 Polished Chrome. Pick the one that matches the lockset and knocker already on the door, since the viewer trim ring sits right at eye level and a mismatched finish shows.
5) Is the Baldwin Observ-O-Scope lens plastic or glass?
Glass. The exterior lens is a scientific glass that resists scratching, which is why the view stays clear over years of exposure instead of hazing the way an acrylic lens does.
6) Is the Baldwin 0155 viewer meant for apartment and commercial entry doors or just houses?
Baldwin lists the Reserve 0155 as a residential item, part of the Reserve collection. It is commonly used on apartment and condo entry doors for that reason, but for a high-traffic institutional opening with an ANSI/BHMA grade requirement you would spec a commercial-rated viewer instead.
