Baldwin 8BR0704010 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Baldwin Reserve deadbolt work on a 2 inch thick door?
Not as it ships. A standard Reserve deadbolt is built for normal residential door thickness, and the 8BR0704 thick door kit is the conversion that takes it out to doors 2 to 2-1/2 inches thick. If your door falls in that range, you order the deadbolt plus this kit; the kit alone is not a lock.
2) Does the Baldwin 8BR0704 thick door kit include the deadbolt itself?
No. The 8BR0704 is a conversion kit only, the longer parts that let a Baldwin Reserve Series deadbolt mount on a 2 to 2-1/2 inch door. The deadbolt is a separate order.
3) What if my door is thicker than 2-1/2 inches?
The 8BR0704 kit stops at 2-1/2 inches. Above that it will not make up the extra thickness, and a Reserve deadbolt is the wrong approach for the opening. Doors over 2-1/2 inches generally need hardware specified for that thickness from the start rather than a conversion kit.
4) Can I get the Baldwin Reserve thick door kit to match my existing satin nickel hardware?
Nine finishes are offered so the conversion matches the deadbolt it goes on: 605 Bright Brass, 112 Venetian Bronze, 150 Satin Nickel, 055 Lifetime Satin Nickel, 260 Polished Chrome, 481 Dark Bronze, 492 White Bronze, 190 Satin Black, and 044 Lifetime Satin Brass. Match the number on your existing Baldwin trim, not the name alone, since 150 and 055 are both satin nickel but different finish processes.
5) Is the Baldwin 8BR0704 thick door kit suitable for a commercial building?
It is a residential product. The Reserve Series line it converts is residential hardware, so for a commercial opening, a fire door, or anything on a code-driven spec, use a commercial deadbolt line instead of adapting Reserve.
6) Will the 8BR0704 kit fit a Baldwin deadbolt from a different Baldwin collection?
It is built for the Reserve Series. Baldwin's other lines use their own thick door kits, so ordering by collection matters here, not just by brand.
