Metallics HSSBG1364E – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use a 13/64 HSS bit on steel, or is it only for wood?
High speed steel bits like this one cut wood, plastic and mild steel, which covers most electrical work: sheet metal enclosures, panel covers, strut and junction boxes. For masonry or concrete you need a carbide tipped masonry bit instead, and for hardened or stainless material a cobalt bit holds its edge longer than plain HSS.
2) What part number do I order for the Metallics 13/64 black and gold bit?
Order it by Metallics part number HSSBG1364E. It is sold as a single 13/64 inch bit, not a set, so if you need a range of sizes you order each diameter on its own part number.
3) What does the black and gold finish on this Metallics bit mean?
Black and gold refers to the surface treatment on the high speed steel body, a black oxide with a bronze/gold oxide finish. It is a coating, not a different steel, and it does not change the 13/64 inch cutting diameter.
