Bobrick 3942-57 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Bobrick 3942-57 skirt actually used for?
It's a 2 inch skirt used to semi-recess a Bobrick washroom unit, sold as a replacement/repair part. The skirt trims the gap around the unit where it projects out of the wall opening so you get a finished edge instead of an exposed rough-in.
2) Is Bobrick 3942-9 the same part as B-3942-57?
Same part, new number. Bobrick renumbered the 2 inch semi-recessed mounting skirt from 3942-9 to 3942-57. If your old submittal or parts list calls out 3942-9, order the 3942-57.
3) Do I need a skirt kit if I'm mounting the unit fully recessed or fully surface mounted?
No. The 2 inch skirt exists specifically for semi-recessed installation, where part of the cabinet sits in the wall and part projects. A fully recessed unit trims out against its own flange, and a surface-mounted unit sits flat on the wall, so neither needs it.
4) Is the 3942-57 a mounting part or a functional washroom fixture?
It's mounting hardware, not a fixture. You're buying the trim skirt only, so the washroom unit itself, its cabinet, and any internal components are separate orders.
5) How deep does the 3942-57 skirt let the unit stand off the wall?
The skirt is a 2 inch skirt, so it's sized for a semi-recessed condition where the cabinet projects that far past the finished wall face. If your wall cavity leaves a different projection, the 2 inch skirt won't close the gap cleanly.
6) I manage several buildings with Bobrick washroom units. Can I stock this as a standard replacement trim?
Yes, it's carried as a repair part, and it comes in a single configuration (model 3942-57), so there's no finish or size choice to track. Match it to openings that were originally built for the 2 inch semi-recessed skirt.
