Bobrick 3949-57 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Bobrick B-3949-57 skirt used for?
The B-3949-57 is a 4 inch stainless steel skirt that adapts a recessed Bobrick washroom unit to either semi-recessed or surface mounted installation. If the cabinet depth is 7-7/8 inches, the skirt semi-recesses it. If the cabinet depth is 4 inches, the same skirt lets you surface mount it. So the skirt is what you order when the wall cavity won't take a full recess.
2) Can I surface mount a recessed Bobrick unit on a block or tile wall with no cavity?
Yes, that's the main reason to buy the B-3949-57. A recessed cabinet with a 4 inch depth becomes surface mounted with this 4 inch skirt, so a solid wall with no chase behind it is no longer a problem. For a deeper cabinet at 7-7/8 inches, the same skirt gets you a semi-recessed install instead of a full one.
3) Do I need to shim a TrimLine B-3803, B-38034 or B-39003 cabinet when installing it?
Yes. TrimLine models B-3803, B-38034 and B-39003 should be shimmed with washers between the back of the cabinet and the wall support backing to fill the space. Skip it and the cabinet back distorts as the fasteners pull it in. Budget the washers into the install, they aren't part of the skirt.
4) Is the Bobrick skirt welded or does it have visible seams at the corners?
Neither. The skirt is drawn and beveled, one piece and seamless, so there are no corner welds or joints to catch grime or to polish out. For a public restroom that gets scrubbed daily, that matters more than it sounds.
5) Does the Bobrick B-3949-57 skirt come in more than one finish?
Satin finish only. There's a single configuration of this skirt, so the ordering decision is whether your cabinet depth is 4 inches or 7-7/8 inches, not which finish to pick.
