Bobrick 674x18 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How far does the Bobrick B-674 towel bar stick out from the wall?
The B-674 projects 3-1/4 inches (85mm) from the finished wall. That matters in tight hotel or hospital bathrooms where a door swing or a lavatory edge is close by. The bar itself is 3/4 inch (19mm) diameter round stainless steel.
2) What lengths does the Bobrick B-674 towel bar come in?
Two lengths: 18 inches (455mm) and 24 inches (610mm). The 18 inch suits a narrow wall run between a door and a vanity; the 24 inch is the common guest-room bath size for a full bath sheet.
3) Is the Bobrick B-674 towel bar bright polished or satin stainless?
Both finishes exist in the family, but they carry different model numbers. B-674 x 18 and B-674 x 24 are bright-polished stainless. The satin 24 inch version is designated B-6747 x 24. Order by the number that matches the other accessories in the room, since a satin soap dish next to a mirror-polished bar reads as a mismatch.
4) I need to replace one 24 inch towel bar and match the others in the building. Will the B-674 match?
If the existing bars are Bobrick B-674 or B-6747, yes, the 24 inch matches on length (610mm), bar diameter (3/4 inch round) and 3-1/4 inch wall projection. Check the finish first: bright-polished is B-674 x 24, satin is B-6747 x 24. Mixing the two on adjacent walls is the usual mistake on single-unit replacements.
5) Is a surface-mounted towel bar like the B-674 the right choice, or should I use a recessed one?
Surface mount is what you want on any wall you cannot open up: existing tile, solid masonry, or a renovation where cutting a recess is out. The B-674 mounts flat to the finished wall and its posts carry the bar 3-1/4 inches off the surface. A recessed bar only makes sense in new construction where the wall cavity is still accessible and you need a flush face for clearance in a very tight room.
6) Will a stainless towel bar hold up in a high-traffic hotel or hospital bathroom?
That is the application Bobrick lists for the B-674: hospital and hotel bathrooms. The bar and mounting posts are stainless steel, which is the standard material choice for wet, frequently cleaned washrooms because it takes repeated disinfectant wipe-downs without finish failure. For fleet work, standardizing on one length across rooms keeps spare stock simple.
