Metallics UBS07 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics UBS07 u-bolt stainless, and will it hold up outdoors?
It's 18-8 stainless steel, both the bolt and the nuts, so it's suited to damp and exterior locations where a plated carbon steel u-bolt would rust. 18-8 is the common austenitic stainless used for general corrosion resistance; it is not the choice for chloride-heavy marine exposure, where 316 is the step up.
2) Do nuts come with the Metallics UBS07, or do I order them separately?
Two hex nuts ship with each u-bolt, so nothing extra is needed to make up the clamp other than whatever backing plate or strut your detail calls for. The nuts are made to ASTM F594, the standard for stainless steel nuts.
3) What thread does the UBS07 u-bolt use, and what nut or threaded fitting will match?
1/4-20 right hand thread, 20 threads per inch, cut to ANSI/ASME B1.1. Any standard 1/4-20 UNC nut or coupling will thread on, so if you lose a nut on site a common 1/4-20 stainless hex nut replaces it.
4) Does the Metallics UBS07 u-bolt qualify for Buy American or ARRA-funded jobs?
The UBS07 is flagged both Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant, which is what a government, school district, or federally funded institutional buyer needs on the submittal. Country of origin is listed as multiple.
5) How many u-bolts are in a bag of Metallics UBS07, and is there an order minimum?
Bagged 10 per pack, with a minimum order of 10 each. Good quantity for a single hanger run; larger counts and other sizes are available by request.
6) Will the UBS07 hex nuts take a standard wrench, and what socket size?
The supplied hex nuts measure 0.428 to 0.438 inch across the flats with a height of 0.212 to 0.226 inch, which is the standard 7/16 inch hex for a 1/4-20 nut. A 7/16 wrench or socket drives them. Nut geometry follows ASME B18.2.2.
7) How much does a bag of Metallics UBS07 u-bolts weigh for shipping or a materials list?
A bag comes in at 367 g, with pack dimensions of 6 inches by 3 inches and 152.4 mm. Light enough to carry a few bags on the cart for a conduit run without adding meaningful weight to the load-out.
