Metallics UBG021 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How wide an opening does this 3/8-16 U-bolt clamp, and will it fit 2 inch pipe or conduit?
Inside spacing on the UBG021 is 2 inches across the legs, so it is sized for a run roughly 2 inches across the outside. Measure the actual outside diameter of what you are strapping, not the nominal pipe or conduit size, because nominal 2 inch pipe measures larger than 2 inches OD. Other sizes are available by request if the 2 inch width is wrong for your run.
2) Are these U-bolts rated for outdoor or damp locations?
The UBG021 is steel with a galvanized finish, which is the usual choice for exterior racks, rooftop supports and damp mechanical rooms. Galvanizing resists rust but is not stainless, so for coastal, pool chemical or wastewater exposure specify stainless instead.
3) Does the Metallics UBG021 U-bolt meet Buy American requirements for a federal or public job?
Yes. The UBG021 is flagged both Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant, which is what a government, school or healthcare procurement office needs for funded work. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if your specification requires a single named source country, confirm the origin on the lot you receive.
4) How many U-bolts come in a bag, and is there a minimum order?
The UBG021 is bagged 10 to a pack, and 10 each is the minimum order. Each piece includes two hex nuts, so a bag gives you 10 U-bolts and 20 nuts. Plan on sourcing washers separately if your detail calls for them, since none are included.
5) What size wrench or socket fits the hex nuts on this Metallics U-bolt?
Across the flats the nuts measure 0.551 to 0.563 inches, which is a 9/16 inch wrench or socket. Nut height runs 0.320 to 0.337 inches.
