Metallics UBG023 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Metallics UBG023 U-bolt meet Buy American requirements for a government job?
The UBG023 is flagged as both Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant in the manufacturer data, which is what public-works and federally funded procurement typically asks for. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so confirm the origin on the specific lot if your contract requires a single sourcing country on the submittal.
2) What is the inside opening on the Metallics UBG023 U-bolt, and what pipe will it clamp?
The U-bolt is specified at 3 inches across the width between the legs, so it's sized to wrap pipe, conduit, or tube up to that nominal opening. Measure the actual outside diameter of what you're clamping, not the nominal pipe size, since the two differ on steel pipe and conduit.
3) Is the Metallics UBG023 U-bolt suitable for outdoor or damp locations?
It's galvanized steel, so it holds up in exterior and damp conditions far better than plain steel. For continuous saltwater exposure or highly corrosive chemical environments, a stainless U-bolt is the better call.
4) How many U-bolts come in a bag of Metallics UBG023?
They're bagged in quantities of 10, with an order minimum of 10 each. Each of the ten U-bolts comes with two hex nuts.
5) What standard are the hex nuts on the Metallics UBG023 dimensioned to?
Nut dimensions follow ASME B18.2.2, the standard for hex nuts, with a head width across flats of 0.551 to 0.563 inch and a height of 0.320 to 0.337 inch. That means a standard 9/16 inch wrench or socket fits them, so no special tooling on the install.
6) Can I get the Metallics UBG U-bolt in a different size or a larger pack?
Yes. Other sizes and quantities in the UBG galvanized U-bolt series are available by request if the 3/8-16 with the 3 inch opening isn't the size you need for the run.
