Metallics JSBH261 Bolts 3/8-24 x 3 HXBT SS (Jar 50)

Fine thread. The JSBH261 is a 3/8 inch diameter bolt with 24 threads per inch, so it mates with 3/8-24 UNF nuts and tapped holes only. It will not thread into a 3/8-16 coarse nut, which is the more common hardware-store pitch, so check the mating thread before you buy. Measured shank diameter runs 0.3690 to 0.3750 inch.

The JSBH261 is 18-8 stainless steel, an austenitic alloy used where general atmospheric corrosion resistance is needed, including chemical and food-processing equipment. For aggressive chemical exposure or chlorides, 316 stainless or another specialty alloy is the better call. Tensile strength runs 100,000 to 150,000 psi minimum with 65,000 psi minimum yield.

The JSBH261 hex bolt is flagged compliant for both Buy American and ARRA, which is what most federally funded and public-agency jobs ask for on fasteners. Country of origin is listed as multiple.

Across the flats the hex head measures 0.551 to 0.562 inch, which is a 9/16 inch wrench or socket. Head height is 15/64 inch, so clearance under a socket is minimal in tight pockets.

These ship in a jar of 50 pieces, and 50 each is the order minimum, so the jar is the smallest unit. Metallics lists other sizes and quantities in the SBHC and JSBHC hex bolt series by request.

Fastener length is 3 inches, measured under the head on a hex bolt. Figure your total grip (material stack plus washers plus nut height) against that 3 inches. Thread length is not something to assume on a hex bolt of this length, since 3 inch hex bolts are commonly partially threaded with a plain shank under the head.

Hardness is Rockwell B95 to C32 with a 65,000 psi minimum yield. That is softer and lower yield than a typical medium-carbon structural bolt, so torque to stainless values rather than carbon-steel figures, and use an anti-seize on the threads. Austenitic stainless like 18-8 galls easily when run down dry against a stainless nut.
