Thomas & Betts LT450P – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size conduit does the Thomas & Betts LT450P 45 degree liquidtight connector take?
The LT450P is a 1/2 inch trade size fitting. It is a 45 degree elbow liquidtight connector with a threaded hub and a ferrule sized to accept normal variation in conduit outside diameter and field cuts, so slightly off cuts still seat and seal.
2) Can I use the LT450P connector in a hazardous location?
Yes. The LT450P 45 degree liquidtight connector is suitable for Class I Division 2, Class II Divisions 1 and 2 in Groups E, F and G, and Class III per the N.E.C., under Articles 501-4, 502-4 and 503-3. It is UL listed under file E23018 and CSA certified.
3) Is the LT450P fitting metal or plastic?
Thermoplastic, black. The body is non-metallic, which is why it is used with flexible non-metallic liquidtight conduit rather than as a bonded metallic raceway fitting. If your run requires the fitting itself to carry ground continuity, you need a metallic liquidtight connector instead.
4) Why choose a 45 degree liquidtight connector instead of a straight or 90 degree one?
The 45 degree elbow is for when a straight fitting would force too tight a bend coming out of a box or enclosure, but a full 90 would kick the conduit back on itself. It buys you clearance against a wall or machine base while keeping the bend radius easy on the conductors. Same 1/2 inch trade size and threaded hub as the straight version, so the box knockout prep does not change.
5) Is the LT450P the right fitting for a wet or washdown area?
It is a liquidtight connector, classified under UNSPSC 39121420 liquid tight connectors, so it is intended for flexible conduit runs where water or washdown spray is present. The teeth and ferrule seal the conduit jacket, and the thermoplastic body will not corrode the way a plated steel fitting can in a damp room. Order it as the LT450P, 1/2 inch.
6) How does the LT450P grip and seal the conduit?
Two things do the work. The inner surface has teeth that bite into the conduit or tubing to improve clamping and sealing, and the outer surface carries friction reducing ridges. The ferrule profile is smooth to cut friction as the conduit is drawn in, which is what gets you a tight conduit to fitting seal rather than a fitting that spins loose.
7) How are LT450P connectors packaged for a bulk order?
They come 10 to an inner carton and 50 to the outer carton. Shipping weight works out to 8 lbs per 100 pieces, so a full 50 piece outer is about 4 lbs of product. Handy if you are stocking a truck or a facility crib rather than buying onesies.
