1) Are Burndy HYLUG terminal lugs UL Listed and CSA approved for an inspected job?
UL Listed and CSA Approved, to the UL468A-468B standard. That is the listing an inspector looks for on a compression connector, and it is a full Listing rather than UL Recognized (component) status, so the lug stands on its own in the installation.
2) Is this a compression lug or a set screw / mechanical lug?
It's a compression lug. The barrel is crimped onto the conductor with a hydraulic or battery crimp tool and the correct die, so there is no set screw to torque and no re-torque at inspection. If you need a connection you can make with a hex key and take apart later, a mechanical set screw lug is the part you want instead.
3) What does the long barrel on a Burndy HYLUG lug get me over a standard barrel?
A long barrel takes two crimps instead of one, which spreads the mechanical pull-out load and increases the contact area between the barrel and the strands. That matters on vibrating gear, motor control centers and generator terminations where a single-crimp short barrel is working harder. The barrel mouth is also chamfered, which lets a fully stranded conductor start into the barrel without birdcaging the outer strands.
4) What tool do I need to crimp a Burndy HYLUG YA terminal lug?
A hydraulic or battery-powered compression tool with the die that matches the lug's die index, which is stamped on the barrel. Burndy dies are indexed per conductor size, so the die for the YA6C at 6 AWG is not the die for the YA322N at 400 kcmil. Get the tool and dies sorted before the conductors are cut, and crimp the long barrel twice.
5) Will a tin-plated copper lug hold up in a damp or outdoor enclosure?
Tin electro-plating over the copper body is there for exactly that: it slows oxidation on the pad and barrel so the contact resistance stays stable in humid, coastal or washdown environments. Bare copper lugs will grey over and need cleaning before you bolt them down. The plating also keeps the pad from galling against an aluminum or plated bus pad.
