Klein Tools 46037 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What comes in the Klein Tools 46037 Cable Splicer's Kit?
Three pieces: a cable splicer's knife, a pair of electrician's scissors, and a two-pocket leather pouch to carry them. The scissors have wire stripping notches, and the knife has a textured handle. Between them the kit cuts cable and telephone wire and strips insulation.
2) Are the Klein 46037 splicer's knife and scissors insulated for live work?
No. The 46037 tools are not insulated, and the plastic-dipped or slip-on plastic handles are not intended to protect against electrical shock. If you need to work energized, you need tools rated and marked as insulated, not this kit. Klein also advises approved eye protection when using them.
3) How big is the Klein 46037 kit and will it ride on a tool belt?
The pouch and tools ship at 8 oz (227 g) total, so it is light enough to carry all day. The tool dimension called out is 2-1/8 in (54 mm) by 7-1/2 in (191 mm), and the packaged kit measures 11 in by 3-7/8 in by 1-1/4 in. The two-pocket leather pouch is riveted and stitched, which is what holds up to belt wear.
4) Do I need a separate stripper if I carry the Klein 46037 kit?
For general insulation work, no. The electrician's scissors in the 46037 carry wire stripping notches and the kit is built to cut cable, cut telephone wire, and strip insulation. For precise gauge-by-gauge stripping on solid conductors many electricians still carry a dedicated gauged stripper alongside it.
5) Is there any restriction on carrying the Klein 46037 splicer's knife?
Klein flags that you should check local law on the legality of selling, carrying, or possessing the knife included in the 46037 kit. Knife rules vary by state and municipality, and some facility and jobsite policies restrict fixed blades regardless of local law.
6) What is the Klein part number and what color is the 46037 kit?
Order it as Klein Tools 46037, which is both the model and the manufacturer part number for the cable splicer's kit. The kit is finished in black.
