The Haven's Grip uses an aggressive knurled jaw and concentrates gripping pressure on a 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) area of the cable, so it is meant for jobs where a light, compact grip matters and conductor damage is not a concern. For bare conductor you intend to keep in service, use a grip with a longer, gentler jaw instead.
3) Does the Klein Haven's Cable Grip have a locking handle or spring-loaded jaws?
No. This Haven's Grip has no locking handle, no spring, no hot latch and no swing latch. It is the plain, compact configuration, so the lineman holds tension on the handle to set the jaws and the load keeps them closed during the pull. If you need a latch to keep the handle captive, you want a different grip configuration.
4) Can I use this grip on energized or near-energized lines?
Only with precautions. There is no hot latch on this grip, and Klein's own warning is to ground, insulate, or isolate the grip before pulling when it is used on or near energized lines. Crews doing routine hot work generally specify a grip built for it.
