Klein Tools Pulling Grip

The KPJ100 junior duty flexible eye pulling grip takes cable from 1.00 inch to 1.24 inch diameter (25.40 to 31.35 mm). Measure the actual outside diameter of the cable or cable bundle you are pulling, not the conductor size, and pick the grip whose range brackets it. Undersizing or oversizing the grip is the usual cause of slippage on a pull.

A flexible eye grip has a woven wire loop that bends, so it follows a conduit bend or a sheave and can be hooked directly to a swivel or pulling rope. That is what makes the KPJ junior duty grips suited to conduit and duct pulls where the cable has to turn. Rigid or closed eye styles are better where the pull is straight and the eye needs to hold its shape for repeated hookups.

The mesh is galvanized steel made from US steel and manufactured in the USA. Galvanizing gives it reasonable resistance to the moisture you see in underground duct and manhole work, but these are pulling tools, not permanent support grips, so inspect the weave for broken strands and corrosion before every pull as Klein directs.

Three cover the junior duty range: KPJ50 for 0.5 to 0.61 inch cable, KPJ75 single weave, and KPJ100 for 1.00 to 1.24 inch cable. Stocking all three means a crew can match the grip to the measured cable OD on site rather than forcing a pull with the wrong size, which Klein specifically warns against.

Single weave describes the mesh construction of the KPJ75 grip body, as opposed to a double weave mesh. Single weave uses one layer of woven strands, which keeps the grip lighter and easier to work onto the cable; double weave adds a second layer for higher load capacity. For any KPJ grip, work to the maximum safe load printed on the grip's own label.
