Cahaba CASS18UM23SB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can this Cahaba single bowl sink be installed in a laminate or tile countertop?
No. It's an undermount sink, which means it mounts under the counter with the cut edge of the counter exposed, so it needs a solid surface top: granite, quartz, solid stone, or a comparable slab. Laminate counters need a drop-in (top mount) sink unless the laminate is specially fabricated with a sealed edge. A cutout template is supplied with the sink for the fabricator.
2) Does the Cahaba CASS18UM23SB come with a strainer, grid, and mounting clips, or do I buy those separately?
The sink ships with a bottom sink grid, a drain assembly, the undermount mounting hardware, and a cutout template. What is not included is an overflow drain, and there are no faucet holes drilled in the sink, so the faucet and any air gap or soap dispenser must be mounted through the countertop and bought separately.
3) Is the Cahaba CASS18UM23SB approved for a restaurant or breakroom?
No. Cahaba states this sink is made for residential use only and should not be used in commercial applications. For an apartment unit kitchen or a single-family remodel it's the right product; for a foodservice or shared commercial kitchen you need a sink built and listed for commercial duty.
4) Will an 18 gauge stainless sink hold up in a rental unit, or should I spec something heavier?
18 gauge is a heavier, stiffer shell than the 20 and 22 gauge bowls common in builder-grade sinks, and this one is certified 304 series 18/10 chrome-nickel stainless, so it resists rust and oxidation. Cahaba also sprays a sound deadening coat and adds a thick rubber pad plus a triple reinforced undermount panel, which cuts the drumming that tenants complain about. It is rated residential only, so it suits apartments and single-family turns, not commercial kitchens.
5) Does the bowl have a center drain, and can I run a garbage disposal on it?
The drain is centered in the bowl, which is the easiest layout for lining up a disposal or a standard trap on the cabinet centerline. A drain assembly is included with the sink. Note there is no overflow drain on this model, so any disposal or basket strainer connects directly to the single center outlet.
6) What finish is the Cahaba CASS18UM23SB and will it match my other stainless appliances?
One finish is offered: brushed stainless, described as a commercial-grade satin finish in the silver color family. Satin brushed stainless is the standard appliance finish, so it reads consistently alongside stainless ranges and dishwashers, and it hides water spots better than a polished mirror finish.
7) How much does this sink weigh for a one-man undermount install?
16 lbs. That's light enough to set and clamp single-handed from inside the cabinet, though most installers still support an undermount bowl with a cross brace or plywood cradle while the adhesive and clips cure.
