Cahaba CASS18UM32DBL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can this Cahaba 50/50 undermount sink be installed in a laminate countertop?
No. The CASS18UM32DBL is an undermount sink and needs a solid surface top, granite, quartz, or similar, where the cut edge can be finished and polished. Standard laminate has a particleboard core that will not take an undermount reveal. For a laminate top you want a top mount (drop-in) sink instead.
2) Does the Cahaba CASS18UM32DBL come with faucet holes?
No holes. It is drilled with zero faucet holes, which is normal for an undermount, your faucet and any soap dispenser or air switch get drilled in the countertop or mounted in the deck behind the sink. Spec the faucet's hole count and spread with your countertop fabricator before the slab is cut.
3) What comes in the box with the Cahaba CASS18UM32DBL sink?
Sink grid (basin rack), drain assembly, undermount mounting hardware, and a cutout template for the fabricator. You will still need to supply the faucet, the P-trap and tailpiece, silicone, and the undermount adhesive or epoxy your countertop installer uses. There is no overflow drain on this sink.
4) Can I use the Cahaba CASS18UM32DBL in a restaurant or break room?
No. It is specified for residential use only and the manufacturer states not to use it in commercial applications. For an apartment unit, condo, or single family kitchen it is in scope; for a foodservice kitchen, school, or shared commercial break area you need a commercial-rated sink.
5) What does the low divider on this Cahaba double bowl sink actually do for me?
The divider between the two 9 inch bowls sits lower than the rim, so a roasting pan or a sheet tray that will not fit in a single 16.88 by 14.5 inch bowl can lay across both. You still get two separate bowls and two drains for washing and rinsing. If you want one uninterrupted basin for oversized cookware, go to a single bowl instead.
6) Do I need two drain kits for this double bowl sink?
No, the drain assembly ships with the sink. Both bowls drain from the center of the basin, so your plumber can run a standard double-bowl continuous waste tee to a single trap. If you are putting a disposal under one side, that bowl's drain gets the disposal flange instead and the disposal is bought separately.
7) Will this sink be noisy when the disposal runs or the water hits it?
It is treated two ways: a sprayed sound-deadening coating across the underside plus a thick rubber pad. The same coating also cuts condensation on the sink bottom, which matters when the cabinet floor below is particleboard. The undermount panel is triple reinforced.
8) What finish is the Cahaba 32-1/4 in. double bowl sink, and will it match my existing stainless appliances?
Brushed stainless with a commercial-grade satin finish and rounded bowl corners, in the silver color family. That satin brushed look is the standard match for brushed stainless ranges, dishwashers, and refrigerators, and it hides water spotting better than a mirror finish. It is the only finish this model is built in.
