Yes. The 8000K ball knob key-lock exit trim is supplied for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the standard commercial door thickness. If your door is 2-1/4 inches thick, you need the optional longer tailpiece; the standard tailpiece will not reach the device on a door that thick.
2) Does the 8000K exit trim fit a standard 161 door prep?
It does. The 8000K covers the standard 161 cutout, so on a door already prepped with a 161 bore for a cylindrical lock or existing knob trim you are not drilling new holes for the trim body itself.
3) What does ANSI Function 08 mean on this exit trim in day to day use?
Function 08 is the entrance/classroom function: the key locks and unlocks the outside ball knob. Leave it unlocked and anyone can turn the knob to get in; key it locked and the outside knob is dead. Inside, the exit device always releases, so egress is never affected by the trim's lock state.
4) Will this knob trim work on my rim exit device, or do I need something else for vertical rod?
Both. The 8000K is built for Cal-Royal rim and surface vertical rod panic devices. It is not a mortise-device trim, so if your opening runs a mortise exit device you need trim made for that device type instead.
