Camden CM-3000 Series Illuminated Mushroom Red Pushbutton

Three different switching actions and two different plate widths. The CM-3010 is a single gang plate with a spring return button, normally closed, momentary, so it breaks the circuit only while pressed. The CM-3040 is also single gang but uses a push/pull button, normally closed, maintained, so it stays latched until someone pulls it back out. The CM-3100 is the narrow stile version with a spring return button, normally open, momentary. Pick momentary N/C for a request-to-exit release, maintained push/pull where you want the door held released until reset, and N/O where your controller expects a contact to close.

Use the CM-3100 for that. It is the narrow stile plate at 4-1/2" x 1-3/4" x 2-7/8" (114mm x 44mm x 72mm), so it fits a stile that will not take a standard single gang plate. The CM-3010 and CM-3040 are single gang plates measuring 4-1/2" x 2-3/8" x 2-7/8" (114mm x 70mm x 72mm), which is too wide for most glass front stiles.

The CM-3040. It is the push/pull button with maintained normally closed contacts, so pushing it holds the circuit broken and the door stays released until someone pulls the button back out. If you want the door to relock the moment the button is let go, use the momentary CM-3010 instead.

The Dortronics 5211-MP23 is the nearest match in concept: a red mushroom push button 1-9/16 inch in diameter mounted on a single gang plate and marked for push to exit / emergency release. The Camden CM-3010 is a single gang, spring return, normally closed momentary button with a 1-5/8 inch mushroom head and bright LED illumination, so the main functional differences to confirm are illumination and the contact arrangement your controller expects.

The Camden CM-3100 is the narrow stile version of the CM-3000 family, a spring return normally open momentary button in a 4-1/2 inch by 1-3/4 inch by 2-7/8 inch housing. If you want an alternate brand in the same narrow footprint, the SDC 410 Series is an illuminated push button exit switch built for narrow frame mounting. Both are intended for the same slim mullion or stile condition.

The button head is 1-5/8" (40mm) in diameter, so it is large enough to hit with a palm, elbow, or gloved hand in an industrial setting without needing precision.

For a bigger strike surface, the SDC 440 Series is a large mushroom button emergency exit switch with a 2-5/8" diameter button, notably larger than the Camden's 1-5/8" head. The SDC 430 Series is a heavy duty industrial mushroom switch with a 1-1/2" round button if you want something closer in size. Dortronics also offers the 5210 Series exit release with a 1-9/16" diameter red mushroom button on a single gang plate, legended "Push to Exit"/"Emergency Release", which is the closest match to the Camden single gang models if you need text on the plate.

The SDC 410 Series is an illuminated push button exit switch with a narrow frame mount, so it serves the same narrow stile and hollow metal frame applications as the CM-3100. If you want a larger button on a standard plate instead, SDC's 420 Series uses 2" buttons.

The Camden CM-3040 is a single gang push/pull mushroom button, normally closed and maintained, rated 6 A at 30 VDC on 12/24 VDC - a heavy duty commercial and industrial release. If the drawing specifically calls for a code compliance listed exit switch, the SDC 420 Series is an illuminated push button exit switch with 2 inch buttons and code compliance called out in the product itself. Match the switch to the language on the spec sheet rather than assuming equivalence.

Watch the latching behavior. The CM-3040 is a maintained push/pull button - it stays actuated until pulled back out, which is what you want for a hold-open or lockdown station. The CM-3010 and CM-3100, and momentary-style mushroom switches such as the Dortronics 5211-MP23 push to exit / emergency release button, act on press and release. Swapping a momentary device into a maintained circuit changes how the door behaves, so confirm the action before ordering.

It is a heavy duty commercial device built for industrial and commercial applications, and the standard plate finish is brushed aluminum, which matches most existing stainless and aluminum switch plates on commercial openings.

The CM-3000 Series is offered in both red and green. The red button is the one used for emergency release and stop functions; order the green version where you want it read as a request-to-exit or door release rather than an emergency device.

The Camden CM-3000 series buttons all carry bright LED illumination with long service life, which is useful in a dark corridor but unnecessary in a lit industrial space. For a straightforward heavy duty industrial mushroom switch, the SDC 430 Series uses a 1-1/2 inch round button and is built for that duty. Compare it against the CM-3010, which is a single gang spring return normally closed momentary device.
