Kinetic by Camden™ is the only 'power harvesting' wireless system to feature an ultra-compact receiver (easily installed in automatic door operator cabinets), with field selectable momentary, delayed or latching relay operation. The wireless system compatible with all brands of automatic door operators and are designed to provide reliable door activation in any commercial, industrial and institutional application. Kinetic by Camden™ no-battery wireless systems are designed for indoor or outdoor applications. For switches directly exposed to rain or snow, a water tight switch option is recommended.


Please note: Kinetic™ no-battery transmitters cannot be used with Lazerpoint RF™ spread spectrum wall switch, FOB, keypad or hands-free wireless transmitters.

1) What exactly comes in the Camden CM-RFK454 wireless switch kit?
The CM-RFK454 kit ships with two CM-45K/4 push plate switches (4-1/2 inch square, blue, 'WHEELCHAIR' symbol with 'PUSH TO OPEN'), two CM-43CBL standard depth surface boxes in double wall black ABS with provision for wireless, and one CM-RX-90 V2 single relay receiver. That covers both sides of one opening, interior and exterior, plus the receiver at the operator.
2) Do the Camden Kinetic push plates need batteries or wiring run to them?
Neither. The Kinetic switches harvest power from the press itself, so there is no battery to change and no wire to pull to the plate. That is the whole point of the system: no annual battery maintenance and no dead transmitter on an exterior wall. The only wiring is at the CM-RX-90 receiver end.
3) Will the Camden CM-RX90 receiver work with my brand of automatic door operator?
Yes. The Kinetic by Camden wireless system is stated as compatible with all brands of automatic door operators, and the CM-RX-90 is small enough (2-5/8 x 1-1/2 x 1 inches) to mount inside the operator cabinet itself. It gives you one SPDT dry relay rated 3 amps at 30 VDC, which is what an operator's activation input expects.
4) Can I mix Camden Kinetic push plates with my existing Lazerpoint RF fobs or keypads?
No, and this catches people. Kinetic no-battery transmitters cannot be used with Lazerpoint RF spread spectrum wall switches, FOBs, keypads or hands-free transmitters. The CM-RX-90 V2 receiver is field switchable between Lazerpoint RF and Kinetic, but it runs in one mode at a time, so you pick one family per receiver. If you need fobs and push plates on the same door, you need a second receiver set to the other mode.
5) What mounting depth do I need for the Camden CM-45 push plate switch?
1-1/2 inches (38.1 mm) of mounting box depth. The kit includes two CM-43CBL standard depth surface boxes, so you can surface mount on block, glass mullion trim or drywall without cutting in a back box at all. Useful on retrofits where there is no cavity behind the finish.
6) Do the Camden CM-45 push plates meet ADA activation force requirements?
The push plate operates with 3.4 lbs of force, which the manufacturer states as ADA compliant activation. The supplied faceplates carry the wheelchair symbol with 'PUSH TO OPEN' in blue, which is the standard graphic for a barrier free entrance.
7) How far can the Camden Kinetic push plate be from the receiver?
300 ft (91.4 m) line of sight on a fixed 900 MHz frequency. Range is stated as equal to line powered or battery powered wireless systems, so harvesting power does not cost you distance. Walls, metal frames and elevator lobbies will cut into that figure, so keep the receiver in the operator header rather than a remote closet.
8) Can I use these Camden wireless push plates outside in a cold or hot climate?
Both the switches and the receiver are rated -40F to 185F (-40C to +85C), and the system is built for indoor or outdoor use. One caveat: if a plate sits where rain or snow hits it directly, a water tight switch option is recommended instead of the standard CM-45 plate supplied in this kit.
9) Can the Camden CM-RX90 hold the door open longer than a normal momentary push?
Yes. The relay is field selectable for momentary, delayed or latching operation. Delay time adjusts 1 to 15 seconds and operating time 1 to 30 seconds, set on the receiver with LEDs showing relay status, learn/erase mode and the time setting. Latching mode is what you use for a hold-open or toilet room lock-out arrangement.
10) How many push plates can I add to one Camden CM-RX90 receiver?
Up to 40 transmitters can be learned into one CM-RX-90 receiver. For a facility standardizing on Kinetic, that means a vestibule with interior and exterior plates, plus added plates at a nearby corridor door driven off the same operator, all on one receiver. Bear in mind it has a single relay output, so every transmitter fires the same door.
11) What voltage does the Camden CM-RX90 receiver run on?
12 VAC/DC or 24 VAC/VDC, so it will tap the accessory power already present in almost any automatic door operator cabinet or off a standard low voltage transformer. No separate dedicated supply is needed in most installs.
12) Can I use this Camden Kinetic kit on a fire rated door?
No. The CM-RFK454 kit carries no fire rating, so it should not be specified as part of a fire door assembly. It is a commercial duty door activation kit for automatic operators, not fire rated hardware.
13) Which Camden push plate series can I add later as extra Kinetic transmitters?
The battery-less Kinetic transmitter is ordered as part of Camden CM-35, CM-40, CM-45, CM-46 and CM-60 Series push plate switches. So if you want a narrow stile plate or a larger plate on a second opening, stay within those series and it will learn into the same CM-RX-90 receiver. The kit itself uses the CM-45 4-1/2 inch square plate.
