Camden CX-SA-1 Door Sequencer Relay
The economical CX-SA1 features a momentary or extended trigger, two relays and 3 timers. The CX-SA1 will properly sequence an operator and electric lock (any type) or two doors that form a vestibule and becomes a latching relay with the flick of a switch.
Applications: Ideal for automatic doors systems that require a make/break relay, uni-directional door sequencing, or that require both momentary and maintained inputs. Provides latching output for connection to fire alarm (smoke EVAC) systems.
Note: CX-SA1 replaces CX-1000/76, CX-1000/78 and CX-1000/79 door sequencers.

1) What does the Camden CX-SA-1 door sequencer actually do on an automatic operator and electric lock?
The CX-SA1 makes sure the electric lock releases before the operator pushes the door. It takes one trigger input and runs it through three adjustable timers and two relays, so the lock unlocks, the operator opens, and everything re-secures in the right order. It works with any type of electric lock, and the same board can sequence two doors that form a vestibule instead of a lock and operator pair.
2) Will the Camden CX-SA1 replace an older CX-1000/76 or CX-1000/78 sequencer?
Yes. The CX-SA1 is the current replacement for the CX-1000/76, CX-1000/78 and CX-1000/79 door sequencers, so one part covers all three older boards.
3) Can I run the CX-SA1 sequencer relay off my existing 12V or 24V access control power supply?
Yes, it runs on 12-24V AC or DC, so it will sit on either a 12V or 24V supply, filtered or unfiltered. Budget 18 mA idle and 63 mA operating at 24V when you size the supply, which is small enough to share with a strike or maglock circuit on most panels.
4) Can the CX-SA1 relay switch a maglock or electric strike directly?
Only light loads. Each of the two Form C (SPDT) outputs is rated 2 A at 24 VDC, with an electrical life of 100,000 operations at that rated capacity. A small strike or a signal to an operator is fine; anything drawing more than 2 A needs a separate power relay driven by these contacts.
5) Does the CX-SA1 accept a dry contact from a card reader, or does it need a voltage input?
Either one. Both trigger inputs are normally open and accept wet or dry contacts, so a dry contact from a reader, push plate or REX works, and so does a hot voltage trigger. Each of the two inputs can be wired either way independently, and the inputs are noise filtered to stop false activations.
6) Can I use the CX-SA1 for a hold-open or fire alarm smoke evac tie-in instead of simple sequencing?
Yes. A switch setting turns the board into a latching relay, so besides the one-shot sequence it will sequence and hold while voltage is applied, or sequence and hold until the next trigger. That latching output is what you connect to a fire alarm or smoke evacuation system when the doors need to go open and stay open.
7) How much timing adjustment do I get on the Camden CX-SA1 sequencer?
Three independent timers, each adjustable from 0.5 to 30 seconds: door open relay #1, door open output #2, and door open relay #2. Response time off the trigger is 0.3 seconds. LED indicators show the state of each timer and relay, which makes setting the delays on site a lot faster than guessing.
8) Will the CX-SA1 board fit inside a standard access control enclosure or above the door header?
The board measures 3-1/2 x 4 x 2/3 inches (89 x 102 x 19 mm), so it drops into most access control cans and, at two thirds of an inch thick, fits in the header cavity of a typical automatic operator.
