1) What capacitor rating is the Keystone CAP-400MH, and what ballast is it for?
The CAP-400MH is a 24 mfd dry film capacitor rated at 400 volts, built as the replacement capacitor for Keystone's 400W metal halide quad-tap ballast. If the ballast you are servicing calls for a different microfarad value or voltage, this is not the right can.
2) Is a capacitor all I need, or do I need the ballast too?
The CAP-400MH is sold as an accessory component, not a complete ballast kit. It is the capacitor only, for a 400W metal halide quad ballast, so the core/coil and any ignitor stay as they are. If the ballast itself has failed, replace the ballast rather than just the cap.
3) Will the Keystone CAP-400MH work on a 250W or 1000W metal halide fixture?
No. It is matched to 400W metal halide, at 24 mfd and 400V. Lower or higher wattage HID ballasts use different capacitance values, and fitting the wrong mfd will leave the lamp striking poorly or not at all. Match the capacitor to the wattage and the mfd printed on the old can.
4) Does "dry film" mean this capacitor has no oil in it?
Correct. The CAP-400MH uses dry film construction, so there is no oil-filled can to leak if the capacitor fails or the case is damaged. That matters for pole-top and interior maintenance work where an oil weep would mean cleanup.
5) Is the Keystone CAP-400MH an LED product or does it qualify for DLC or Energy Star rebates?
Neither. The CAP-400MH is an HID capacitor with no LED module, and it does not carry DLC, DLC Premium, or Energy Star designation. It is a repair part for existing metal halide gear, so it will not support an LED rebate application.
6) How heavy is the CAP-400MH for mounting inside a ballast tray?
It weighs 0.51 lbs, light enough to sit in a standard ballast tray or pole base on its existing bracket or strap. Reuse the original mounting hardware and keep the can clear of the core and coil.
7) Does the Keystone CAP-400MH have any wireless or dimming control built in?
No controls of any kind. It is a passive capacitor with no wireless control capability, so dimming or networked control has to come from the fixture or the system, not from this part.
