Metallics 71620CTE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Metallics 71620CTE tap plug made of?
Carbon steel. It is a metal plug, not plastic, so it suits steel enclosures and fittings where the closure needs to be as rigid as the housing. Carbon steel is not stainless, so in wet or corrosive locations plan on a coating or a corrosion resistant alternative.
2) What is a tap plug used for in an electrical install?
A tap plug seals off a threaded hole you are not using. The Metallics 71620CTE screws into a 7/16-20 tapped opening in a fitting, box or enclosure to close it, keeping dirt and debris out and keeping the housing intact. Electricians and MRO crews keep them on hand when a drilled and tapped port is left unused after a conduit run is rerouted.
3) How many Metallics 71620CTE tap plugs come in a pack?
One plug per pack, supplied in a pouch. If you are closing out several unused tapped openings on a job, order a quantity to match the hole count rather than assuming a multi-pack.
4) What part number do I order for the Metallics 7/16-20 carbon steel tap plug?
Order Metallics 71620CTE. The number reads directly off the thread: 7/16-20 carbon steel tap plug, sold as a single piece.
