1) What is the difference between the Carlon SC100A, SC100SC, and SC100RR-CP low voltage brackets?
All three are Carlon 1-gang orange non-metallic low voltage mounting brackets, but they are ordered differently. SC100A is the open back design in a standard pack, SC100SC is the add-on bracket in a standard pack, and SC100RR-CP is the standard bracket in a contractor pack for crews doing volume rough-in. Pick the contractor pack when you are trimming out a whole building and the standard packs for smaller jobs or service work.
2) Can I use a Carlon SC100 low voltage bracket for line voltage receptacles or switches?
No. The SC100 is a low voltage mounting bracket, not an outlet box. It has zero knockouts and no enclosure for line voltage conductors. Use it for data, telephone, coax, speaker, thermostat, intercom, security, and access control device plates. For 120V receptacles or switches you need a proper single gang outlet box.
3) Does the Carlon SC100 bracket have a back, or is the wall cavity left open?
The SC100A is the open back version, which is what most low voltage installers want. With no back, the cable passes straight out of the bracket into the stud bay and there is no bushing or knockout to fight. That open cavity is also why this is not a substitute for a boxed device: it gives no enclosure, only a mounting frame for the plate and device.
4) Will a standard 1-gang wall plate and keystone insert fit the Carlon SC100 bracket?
Yes. The SC100 is a 1-gang bracket built to standard single gang mounting dimensions, so decorator plates, keystone plates, and low voltage device plates sized for a single gang opening mount to it directly.
5) When would I order the SC100SC add-on bracket instead of the standard SC100?
The add-on version is the one to specify when you are ganging alongside an existing bracket rather than starting a new opening. If you are running a fresh single gang low voltage drop on its own, the standard bracket or the open back SC100A is what you want.
6) Why is the Carlon SC100 bracket orange instead of blue?
The orange color is the trade's visual shorthand for low voltage. On a rough-in walkthrough an inspector or another crew can tell at a glance which openings carry communications cable and which carry power, without pulling a plate. Carlon's low voltage brackets are molded in orange for exactly that reason.
7) Are Carlon SC100 brackets made in the USA?

8) Will the non-metallic SC100 bracket cause a grounding problem on a data drop?
No. The bracket is non-metallic, so it is not part of any bonding path and does not need to be grounded. Grounding and bonding of shielded cable, racks, or panels is handled at the equipment end, not at the bracket. The non-metallic body also will not corrode in damp or coastal construction the way a steel ring can.
