New construction rough-in. The Carlon 234-NP is a nail-on box, so it mounts to exposed wood studs before drywall goes up. For an existing finished wall you want an old-work (remodel) box with wing brackets that clamp to the drywall instead, because there is no way to drive the nail-on tabs once the wall is closed.
2) Do I need separate cable connectors with the Carlon 234-NP nonmetallic box?
No. The 234-NP has cable clamps built into the box, so NM cable is secured at the box without adding a separate connector. Strip and land the cable, seat it under the clamp, and the box side of the job is done.
