1) What trade sizes does Carlon Carflex liquid-tight non-metallic conduit come in, and how much is on each reel?
Carflex liquid-tight flexible non-metallic conduit runs from 3/8 inch up to 2 inch trade size, and the reel length steps down as the size goes up: 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch come on 1,000 ft reels, 1 inch on a 500 ft reel, 1-1/4 inch on 200 ft, 1-1/2 inch on 150 ft, and 2 inch on 100 ft. Order by the part number that matches both the size and the put-up, for example 15005-001 for 1/2 inch by 1,000 ft or 15011-100 for 2 inch by 100 ft.
2) Is Carlon Carflex conduit suitable for a motor connection or a VFD-to-motor whip?
That is the application it is built for. Carflex liquid-tight flexible non-metallic conduit is specified for control and motor wiring, so motor leads, motor control centers, pump and compressor hookups, HVAC equipment connections and industrial control panels are all in scope. The flexible PVC wall lets you take up vibration and misalignment at the motor without a rigid offset, and the liquid-tight construction keeps washdown and weather out of the circuit.
3) Should I use non-metallic liquid-tight conduit or the metal-core type for my run?
Carflex is the all-PVC, non-metallic version: no steel core, so it is lighter, easier to bend by hand around obstacles, and it resists chemicals rather than corroding. What it does not give you is a metal raceway, so it provides no equipment grounding path and none of the physical crush and impact resistance of a metal-core liquidtight. For control wiring, motor leads and equipment connections in wet or washdown areas, the non-metallic type is the usual pick, and you pull a separate equipment grounding conductor inside it. Where the conduit is exposed to traffic, cart strikes or hot work, choose a metal-core liquidtight instead.
4) Do I need separate fittings for Carlon Carflex, or are connectors included on the reel?
A reel of Carflex is conduit only. The liquid-tight connectors are ordered separately, and they have to match both the trade size of the conduit and the knockout in the box or motor terminal housing. Count your terminations before you order: every box, disconnect and motor peckerhead on the run needs its own liquid-tight fitting, plus sealing washers where you want the enclosure rating maintained.
5) Is Carlon Carflex liquid-tight conduit available in black, or only gray?
Both. The 1/2 inch size is offered as a black reel under part number 15005BK-001 as well as the standard version, 15005-001, both on 1,000 ft reels. If you are matching existing raceway on a building or want the darker jacket for an outdoor run, order the BK part number specifically, because the two are separate items.
6) Can Carflex non-metallic conduit be used outdoors on rooftop equipment?
Yes for outdoor motor applications and commercial building systems, which is what the liquid-tight PVC construction is intended to handle, including moisture protection on exposed equipment connections. Terminate both ends with liquid-tight fittings so the seal is continuous, and support the run so the conduit is not taking the weight or the vibration of the equipment.
7) Which reel size makes sense for a maintenance shop that standardizes on one conduit size?
For MRO stock, the 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch sizes come on 1,000 ft reels (15005-001 and 15007-001), which is the practical standing stock for control and motor whips across a facility. Larger sizes come in shorter put-ups, so a 2 inch run is bought as a 100 ft reel (15011-100) job by job rather than held in bulk. Buying the 1,000 ft reel in your standard size cuts the number of part numbers on the shelf and reduces offcut waste.
