1) How do I go from 2 inch PVC conduit down to 1-1/4 inch without cutting in a coupling?
A Carlon E950 reducer bushing does it in one fitting. It is a bell x spigot part: the spigot (male) end solvent welds into the bell of the larger run, and the bushing's own bell accepts the smaller conduit. For 2 inch down to 1-1/4 inch that is the E950JG-CAR. No separate coupling needed on either side.
2) Can I drop two trade sizes with one Carlon reducer bushing, like 2 inch straight to 3/4 inch?
No. The E950 bushings step down one or two sizes only, and 2 inch stops at 1-1/2 (E950JH-CAR) or 1-1/4 (E950JG-CAR). To reach 3/4 inch from 2 inch you stack: E950JG-CAR into the 2 inch bell, then E950GE-CAR (1-1/4 x 3/4) into that. Same trick anywhere in the range, since every bushing presents a bell that will take the next bushing's spigot.
3) Will a PVC reducer bushing pass inspection on a commercial job?
The Carlon E950 reducer bushings carry UL listing E23018, which is what an inspector looks for on a rigid nonmetallic conduit fitting. Solvent weld both joints per the cement instructions and the transition is a listed assembly like any other coupling in the run.

The E950 will not join two cut ends on its own, since one side of it is a bell and the other is a spigot.
