CENTRIOS CER – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Centrios CER smart reader work on an exterior gate or garage door, or is it indoor only?
The CER Smart Reader is weather resistant and rated from -40 F to 122 F (-40 C to 50 C), so it holds up on perimeter openings, garages, glass doors and gates as well as interior doors. It is a commercial-rated device. What it controls is the electrified hardware behind it, so the opening needs an electric strike, mag lock or electrified lockset already in place.
2) What power supply do I need for a Centrios CER reader?
The CER runs on 12-24VDC, so it drops onto the same low-voltage access control power most electric strikes and mag locks already use. If you are powering the lock and the reader off one supply, size the supply for both loads.
3) Does the Centrios CER reader do keypad codes and phone unlock, or do I have to pick one?
Both. The CER has a capacitive keypad for PIN entry and Bluetooth for phone credentials, and it also reads Centrios cards and fobs. That matters on a mixed building: staff can carry a fob, a tenant can use their phone, and a vendor can be given a code without you issuing hardware.
4) Will the Centrios CER read my existing prox cards from another system?
The CER is stated to work with Centrios cards and fobs. If you are running credentials from another manufacturer's system, do not plan on this reader picking them up, plan on reissuing credentials or using the keypad and Bluetooth options instead.
5) Can I wire a door position switch and a request-to-exit device to the Centrios CER?
Yes, the CER has two inputs, specifically for a door position switch and a request to exit device, plus two configurable output relays. The two relays are what let you drive a lock on one and something else, a horn, an aux relay or a second device, on the other, instead of adding an outboard controller.
6) Is the Centrios CER keypad ADA compliant for a public building entrance?
The CER is stated ADA compliant and FCC/IC certified. The capacitive keypad takes a touch rather than a mechanical press, which is what makes it workable for low-force operation on a public-facing opening.
7) Do I need a separate access control panel with the Centrios CER, or is the reader the controller?
The CER carries its own inputs and outputs, two inputs for door position and request to exit and two configurable relays, so it handles the door itself rather than reporting back to a panel for the unlock decision. That is the practical difference from a plain reader: a plain reader needs a controller behind it, this one drives the electrified hardware directly.
8) What color does the Centrios CER smart reader come in?
Black is the only finish for the CER. If you are standardizing entries across a portfolio, every opening gets the same black reader, so plan trim and escutcheon colors around that rather than expecting a match to a brass or satin chrome package.
