Metallics JC14M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How much chain is on a reel of Metallics JC14M jack chain?
One reel holds 1,000 feet of #14 jack chain. It ships as a reel, so it's a bulk run length rather than a cut-to-order piece, which is how it gets used for fixture hanging and suspended runs across a building.
2) Is the JC14M jack chain galvanized or bare steel?
Galvanized steel. The zinc coating is what lets it be used in damp or unheated spaces, warehouses, parking structures, mechanical rooms, where bare steel would surface rust.
3) What is #14 jack chain normally used for on an electrical job?
The JC14M is light-duty galvanized jack chain, the size electricians reach for to suspend lay-in and strip fixtures, hang signage, and support light runs where a rigid hanger isn't practical. It's not a load-rated lifting chain, it's a hanging chain, so pair it with S-hooks or screw hooks sized to the link.
4) Do I have to order a full 1,000 foot reel of JC14M, or can I get it cut?
It's sold as the reel, 1,000 feet of #14 galvanized jack chain per reel. If you only need a few hundred feet for one fixture run, order the reel and cut on site with bolt cutters or side cutters, which is standard practice with jack chain.
5) What is the Metallics part number for the 1,000 foot galvanized jack chain reel?
JC14M is the Metallics manufacturer part number for the #14 galvanized steel jack chain, 1,000 feet on a reel. That's the number to quote for a straight reorder.
