1) Can the Columbia CSL LED striplight be mounted directly to a wall, or is it ceiling only?
Either. The CSL striplight surface mounts on a wall or a ceiling, and it ships fully assembled with the lens and LED engine captive to the housing, so there is no field assembly of the optic. A junction box cover comes with it, which is what you need when you are landing it over an existing box on a concrete ceiling or a block wall. It is not a suspended or recessed fixture; if the plan calls for stem or cable hung rows, that is a different mounting configuration.
2) What does switchable lumen and CCT mean on the Columbia CSL striplight, and do I have to order a specific version?
It means one fixture covers several light levels and color temperatures, selected in the field rather than at order entry. The CSL carries Switchable Lumen Technology and switchable CCT at 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, so a property manager stocking one part number can set 4000K in a corridor and 5000K in a shop, and dial the output up or down to suit the space. For a facility standardizing across buildings, that is one SKU on the shelf instead of six.
3) Will a Columbia CSL striplight work on 277 volt in a commercial building?
Yes, and on 347 as well. The CSL runs universal voltage across 120 to 347V, so the same fixture drops onto 120V in a residential-scale service, 277V on a typical commercial lighting branch, and 347V in a Canadian building. There is no separate voltage-specific part to select.
4) Does this LED striplight dim, and what control system do I need?
The CSL dims 0-10V down to 10 percent, so it needs a 0-10V control channel: a low voltage dimmer or a panel or room controller with a 0-10V output, plus the two control conductors pulled to the fixture. It will not dim on a standard line voltage incandescent or forward phase wall dimmer. If the branch has no control wiring, the fixture still runs at full output on line voltage alone.
5) Can I add occupancy sensing to the Columbia CSL striplight later without replacing the fixture?
Yes. A microwave sensor accessory installs in the field behind the lens, so a stairwell or storage room that later falls under an occupancy control requirement can be retrofitted without pulling the fixture down and swapping it. The sensor is a separate accessory and is not part of the striplight itself, so it has to be ordered alongside.
6) What is the difference between a frosted lens striplight and a bare strip or wraparound fixture?
A frosted polycarbonate lens spreads the light and hides the individual diodes, so you do not get the dotted, glary look of an unlensed strip. That matters in a corridor, a back-of-house area, or any space where people look up at the fixture. A bare strip is the cheaper choice above a warehouse rack where nobody sees the source; a wraparound gives more side throw down the walls. The CSL sits between them: a flat lensed strip for general area and utility lighting at a working CRI of 80 or better.
7) Does the Columbia CSL come in an 8 foot length for a continuous run?
Both 4 foot and 8 foot lengths are offered in the CSL striplight family, so a long corridor or aisle can be laid out in 8 foot sections to halve the number of connection points and joints. The CSL4-A-LSCS is the 4 foot version.
8) Is the Columbia CSL striplight DLC qualified for a utility rebate?
The CSL is DLC Qualified, which is what most utility prescriptive rebate programs require for an LED retrofit. Rebate paperwork is usually filed against a specific model listing, so the qualification should be confirmed for the exact model at designlights.org before the application goes in.
